Q&A on Freja Foods

Who is Freja Foods?

Freja Foods was founded by husband-and-wife team, Ed and Jess. They wanted to create delicious, nutritious fast food, with no additives that could feed their family of six, but also it had to be sustainable, have a long shelf-life and meet high animal-welfare standards!

They decided upon creating bone broth products, which they remembered from their childhood, and Freja was born.

What is bone broth?

Bone broth is the origin of soup and involves the simmering of animal bones for extended periods. This process, discovered by our ancestors, extracts vital nutrients and rich flavours from the bones, creating a highly nutritious and tasty broth.

The essence of a superior bone broth lies in the quality of its ingredients—carefully sourced animal bones, a handful of vegetables for flavour, and pure filtered water.

What are the benefits of bone broth?

Bone broth is renowned for its potential health benefits and has been used for centuries for its nourishing properties.

Rich in Nutrients:

Bone broth is a concentrated source of essential nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.

Supports Joint Health:

The collagen and gelatin extracted during the bone broth-making process may support joint health by promoting the strength and integrity of connective tissues.

Promotes Gut Health:

The gelatin in bone broth may help maintain a healthy gut lining and support digestive health. It can contribute to a balanced gut microbiome, fostering overall digestive well-being.

Excellent for Skin, Hair, and Nails:

Collagen, a major component of bone broth, is known for its potential to enhance the health and appearance of skin, hair, and nails by supporting strength, elasticity and hydration.

Aids in Immune Function:

The amino acids present in bone broth, such as arginine and glutamine, may have immune-boosting properties, contributing to a robust immune system.

Easy-to-Digest Protein:

The proteins in bone broth are broken down into easily digestible forms during the cooking process, providing a gentle protein source.

May Reduce Inflammation:

Certain compounds in bone broth, including chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine, have anti-inflammatory properties and may help reduce inflammation in the body.

What does Freja bone broth taste like?

With the exception of the Freja Vegan Broth, the flavour of the different Freja bone broths is influenced by the type of bones used—beef, chicken, or fish.

The extended cooking process extracts flavours from the bones, resulting in a broth with depth and richness.

The chicken bone broth tastes much like the lovely juices from your Sunday roast chicken. It is lighter and more subtle in flavour than the beef bone broth, which has a deeper, more robust and velvety flavour.

What about bone broth and collagen?

Derived from simmering collagen-rich bones and joints, bone broth stands as the most natural source of collagen. This liquid, easily consumed and digested, provides a replenishing supply of collagen—a protein our bodies naturally produce in diminishing quantities as we age.

Collagen plays a pivotal role in fortifying joints, preserving the youthful elasticity of the skin, and contributing to the construction of a resilient gut lining. These are just a few among the myriad benefits that underscore collagen's importance as a foundational protein in supporting and maintaining various aspects of our health.

How do you use Freja bone broth?

Freja bone broth is very versatile and is made into a clear liquid so that it can easily be integrated into your daily routine; sip a mug of broth, incorporate it into a hearty soup, make a sauce with it, use it to cook grains, add it to a risotto or pop it into a stew.
